Amy COLDWATER, Partner

Amy Coldwater is a partner in the Current Law Group. Her practice focuses on corporate counseling, commercial transactions, employment, and technology-based transactions, including the licensing and acquisition of intellectual property assets.

Ms. Coldwater has experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements for large public companies and startup companies in the technology, software, life sciences, information technology, entertainment and food and beverage industries, including procurement agreements for goods and services, license agreements for patents, software, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets; Internet-related business agreements; consulting agreements; sales and distribution agreements; marketing agreements; clinical trial agreements; privacy policies and online terms of use; publicity agreements; and non-disclosure agreements. Ms. Coldwater has also counseled corporate clients on a range of corporate governance and financing issues such as corporate formation and governance, venture capital financings and general corporate counseling.

Ms. Coldwater further has prior experience working directly in the entertainment industry as counsel and producer for a start-up production company and has experience in U.S. federal government procurement working as a Contracts Officer for the U.S. military. Ms. Coldwater has a B.A. from the University of Chicago and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where she served as an editor on the UCLA Law Review.

 

Wayne xiong (HSIUNG), Partner

Wayne Hsiung is a partner at Current Law Group LLP. His practice focuses on start-ups, financings, corporate counseling, and general litigation.

Mr. Hsiung’s experience is distinct in that he has experience as both a litigator and a transactional lawyer at top law firms. As a litigator, he represented a key executive in criminal and civil investigations relating to the collapse of a global derivatives broker, an asset management firm in securities fraud litigation over US$200 million in synthetic CDOs, and a bidder in litigation regarding the award of a US$1 billion development contract at O’Hare International Airport.

Before entering the practice of law, Mr. Hsiung was the Searle Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor at Northwestern School of Law, where he published research with the renowned Harvard scholar Cass Sunstein (author of the best-selling Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness). Mr. Hsiung has a B.A., M.A., and J.D. from the University of Chicago, and was a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellow and Ph.D. candidate at MIT’s Department of Economics, specializing in behavioral economics.

 

Christina Liu, Of Counsel

Christina Liu is of counsel at the Current Law Group. Her practice focuses on the clearance, acquisition, licensing and enforcement of intellectual property rights, including trademarks, trade dress, copyrights, and domain names.

Ms. Liu effectively assists clients with all stages of brand acquisition, development, and enforcement. She guides clients through the naming process from trademark clearance to registration, counsels on how to use, exploit and protect trademarks to maximize brand value, and develops cost effective strategies for enforcing trademarks. Ms. Liu has conducted many hundreds of trademark searches and provided clearance opinions for trademarks, service marks, slogans, logos, trade dress, product designs, and other nontraditional marks. She also has extensive experience filing and prosecuting trademark applications through to registration with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), as well as working with foreign counsel to achieve registration in international territories.

Ms. Liu’s background includes managing and auditing domestic and international trademark portfolios, successfully representing clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), handling domain name disputes under the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) with decisions in the client’s favor, supervising domestic and international cease and desist enforcement programs, and resolving numerous trademark and copyright disputes through negotiation and settlement. She also has experience negotiating and drafting agreements relating to the transfer, use and licensing of intellectual property, including trademark and copyright assignments, IP releases, merchandise and video game licensing, distribution agreements, and other promotional use and product placement agreements. Ms. Liu also helps clients navigate the unique IP issues posed by the Internet, including advising on DMCA compliance, use of third party intellectual property, and trademark and copyright policing in the online environment.

Ms. Liu has worked with diverse clients ranging from small, independent businesses to global Fortune 500 companies in a broad range of industries, including entertainment, fashion, media, marketing, technology, automotive and finance. She previously headed the in-house trademark and licensing group for a leading global brand and has also provided trademark training for in-house counsel. Ms. Liu has a B.A. from Cornell University and a J.D. from UCLA School of Law.
